We all know about my ups and downs at my job and this week has just exemplified the roller coaster that I feel like I am on.
Often times my job requires me to go on site-visits around San Francisco Bay to check out certain projects first hand. I almost never go by myself- usually someone goes with me or I meet people on site, but this was a rare visit that I just wanted to see what I could and get back to the office. Well, see this mud flat:
I fell flat into it. It looks dry in the picture, but no. Five-inches deep of wet, smelly gooey mud. Shoes, jacket, belt and camera- ruined. Yep. Ruined.* Mud everywhere. Shocked and stunned don't really describe my feelings. I gathered myself up and found a nearby water fountain to wash my hands. I left over an inch of mud on my ass, sat on my jacket (hence the official ruining of the jacket) and hightailed it home for a long hot shower.
Really a lemon of a day. I am sorry I don't have pictures but through ruining the camera and my injured pride, I have no photographic evidence. Just trust me on this one- it was as nasty as it gets.
The next day, I found myself on a site-visit here:
Can't tell where here is, here's a better shot:
You don't live in the Bay Area? It's the bridge that goes from Oakland to SF, you might remember the whole earthquake incident that happened over 20 years ago? Well, in 2014-ish, they hope to open up this whole new bridge that will carry almost 1/2-million cars over the bridge every day.
See Old Bridge:
New Bridge:
To be honest I've been on the tour before, but it's still cool every time. And the best part- you too can walk across the bridge once it's open via the new Bicycle Pedestrian Path.
Kinda neat, right?
We also got to see an endangered Falcon hanging out just five feet away:
Well, I pretty much geeked out all day and thought it was cool. And a much more sugar and lemons type of day.
So what's your week been like?? Great, awful, too boring to share? Anyway you slice the lemons- I personally can't wait for the weekend.
*Thankfully, the mud washed out of my jeans after a few hours of soaking.
PS Do you love my outfit or what? And no, I don't work for Caltrans- it was just given to use for the trip.
