So this week, I am reviewing my absolute favorite purchases from the year. Things that I highly recommend.
I thought I'd start off with my current obsession: The Nook.
I am a reader, but with my Nook- I've become an obsessive reader.
First, when thinking about why I wanted an e-reader, I realize that I had one main reason: The Bus. Urg, the bus. I have taken public transit to work for almost a decade now, and as long as I have a book with me, I like it. I love engrossing myself into something, and when it's a good book- I actually look forward to my commute.
My one problem with my reading addiction and the bus- the SIZE of the book. Every now and then, I decide to read a disgustingly long book, and end up carting it all over the City for the weeks that follow.
So the Nook lightens my load and makes my commute that much easier. Plus, I have a super cute cover for it:
Second, why the Nook?? Well, I made Mr. Spice do most the research on this one, but three things stood out with the Nook. (1) Download anywhere at any time. (2) You can lend books to someone else who has the Nook. (3) You can download books from your local library for FREE. Music to my ears. Oh, and four, I like the color screen at the bottom- it allows me to still shop for books by their cover.
Honestly, it's the whole library thing that made me choose the Nook over the Kindle.
As for my favorite thing about the Nook besides the weight- instant gratification. Monday I downloaded a book while I waited for the bus, and as soon as I sat down on the bus- it was there and ready for me to read it. Talk about a book lovers dream.
Now for the downfalls of the Nook. I have come to find out that most books aren't lend-able. In fact, I don't think I can share any of the books I've bought yet. Also, I will admit that my expenditures on books have tripled since getting the Nook, but I've started being more savvy and shopping in the $5 and under section.
That said, since July, I've read 10 books. I feel like I am satisfying a really healthy habit and I find myself turning off the TV at night to curl up in bed with my Nook, oh, and Mr. Spice too.
How about you, do you e-read?
